1h 38m · 1990 · Directed by Abbas Kiarostami · 4.4 / 5 on Letterboxd

Close-Up (1990) runs 1h 38m, directed by Abbas Kiarostami. It is one of 3,647 films in the 100 Minute Movies catalog — every one rated 3.0 or higher by Letterboxd members and short enough to finish in an evening.

This fiction-documentary hybrid uses a sensational real-life event—the arrest of a young man on charges that he fraudulently impersonated the well-known filmmaker Mohsen Makhmalbaf—as the basis for a stunning, multilayered investigation into movies, identity, artistic creation, and existence, in which the real people from the case play themselves.
